Most Sunday nights, I find myself tossing and turning in bed as my mind is racing in all directions to device strategies to make it a successful week and to embrace the craziness that lies ahead. I anyway have had a very low bar for quite a few years . It is a successful day, if my kids are well fed and they make it to school. Clean-kids are bonus. Exceptional performance is when we are able to finish all homework and other school related stuff, I am able to attend my dance lessons and my husband and I are able to workout.
Getting past this Monday morning after a 2-day-inertia-of-rest, was a herculean task. My husband and I had to team-up to drag the little monsters out of the bed, get them dressed, feed them and buckle them in their car-seats. 101 crazy things happened in that 1.5-hours time-frame. By the time I reached work at 8:30 am, it felt like I had lived half-a-day already! On top of that I had to prepare for a presentation that came up last minute. We never signed up for the madness that came with this parenting-project, but the secret recipe to deal with it is - 2 oz of anger management, 5 oz of negotiation, 10 oz planning, 10 oz teamwork and 50 oz of patience (all the corporate competencies that make you a great employee except this job comes with very different kind of incentives).
At work I am more in-control, probably because that is what my physical and mental faculties are I designed to do and so I am in my element. Hence dressing up for this presentation was the last thing I was worried about. We have a casual dress code at workplace, sometimes wayyyyy toooo casual (don't even get me started on that). So I decided to look comfy-crisp and not OTT (with shirt/blazer etc) so I could look great and exhume confidence.
Here is what I wore:
I am in love with this Banana Republic Flutter Sleeves Top that is selling like hotcakes right now (make sure you grab it before it is sold out). These cascading tiers have structured and exaggerated flounce that imbue a feminine charm and yet you would avoid looking too saccharine for workplace.
I paired it with my Banana Republic Front-Tie Pinstripe skirt. With A-line silhouette this skirt is forgiving, and it gave the outfit the crisp finish it needed. This skirt runs large and so ladies SIZE DOWN!!. Go for a Regular size instead of petite if you find that the skirt is too short for work as you size down.
To add coolness to my otherwise formal look, I wore my favorite Wildfox Malibu Sunnies that completely elevated the look a couple of notches.
These Micheal Kors kitten heels were a rare find. Yes! Kitten-heels are not only back but insanely practical. I can never wear heel>3" all day. With 2 1/4 kitten heels this MK is a contemporary alternative to flats.
Finally my age-to old Coach Bag added a splash of color to the outfit. It is a couple of seasons old and so I am eyeing this similar cute Kate Spade Bag as a replacement.
So what are you waiting for! Be Bold, Be fierce , Make a Statement!
